Overcoming Fear of Self-Expression
Hi Everyone ! welcome to very first SNS solo session English version :) I am Kepisia In this solo episode, I dive deep into a journey that many of us face – the fear of expressing ourselves openly and authentically. I share my personal story of how I discovered that my greatest fear, engaging in meaningful conversations with others, turned into my greatest passion. I reflect on the moment when I began to hold back and stopped being courageous in expressing my true self, understanding how this often stems from a single event that builds a false belief about ourselves and the world around us. Through this episode, I aim to uncover how societal and generational traumas have impacted our ability to speak up and share our voices, particularly in the Polish context, where historical events have deeply ingrained fear into our nervous systems.
Cześć wszystkim, witam w SORRY NOT SORRY. So, this podcast and perhaps this one and only episode is dedicated to all you accent fetishists out there. Whether you are a linguistic nerd or language's learner or just someone who enjoys different voices, this one is for you.
So, get comfortable, lay down, sit back and enjoy the ride. I wierzę, że to może być fantastyczny sposób, by się rozwijać, Now let's go get a bit more serious.
Dziś chciałabym opowiedzieć o czymś osobistym, z czym byłem w porządku przez wiele czasu. I teraz mówię o znalezieniu mojego głosu. I have always admired people who speak with such a clarity and conviction.
I was that girl. So my YouTube channel was kind of famous when I was young. I mean younger because I'm still young by the way. Being here now, talking to camera and microphone and feeling comfort... This is so difficult word to say. Wait, I have to google it. Comfortable.
Comfortable. And I thought that this journey has led me to a place where I understand what my voice is, what it means and what I want to convey with it. By the way, I really thought I had moved past this By the way, I'm actually very talkative person, but it is just because I have to.
I... Have mutual understanding without saying a word. So, yeah, and this is the way I really want because to people I know I have to usually speak a lot to understand me and it doesn't make any sense or not, whatever. Okay, I started to realize that despite all the content I have created over the years,
I knew that thanks to this tool I would step into my full power and learn a lot about myself, about people, about the world and most importantly about how I deal with internal
Fears and concerns. And what I would like to improve, what makes me not fully the person I want to be. And the truth is overcoming my fear and stepping out to people with something in my head saying what do you even have to say is one of the first major challenges I faced regarding confronting my fears. Period in my life when I feel like I'm doing the most work in terms of myself and my potential is actually now. And this challenge asks me many questions about lies and beliefs about myself, about what I think about the world and about myself.
Self-confidence. To było o tym, jak się zmieniłam, How I, you know, post and my body language was my form of, form of like self-expression and I felt confident in how I moved. And I also can say that that was my, my self-expression. And social media also became a space for my self-expression, you know, like how I conveyed myself in stories, presented things, etc., but
Co mnie w zasadzie blokuje? And when I really, like really, really, when I looked deep within, I discovered a pivotal moment. Ok, here I can also tell you where my fears started and why it was so hard for me to express myself fully at first. That is good, I can say it in English because no one in my family except Justina understands English. That's great.
Nawet w... Kepisia. Kepisia. The only thing I couldn't do was ballet. So when I was seven my mom pushed me to ballet lessons and I got kicked out after the first class because I started rapping on stage during the lesson.
Kepisia. Kepisia. Kepisia. Kepisia. Could you please, it will be brutal, could you please just shut up and stop singing? It wasn't just shut up, but I don't wanna tell you again what I heard, but I just, he just said he can't listen to it anymore.
And my mom of course said How can you say that? What's the problem? Let them think. And you know, a big argument started and you can imagine, typical Polish family scene. I mean, it's understandable that every parent gets tired and fed up with listening to Hannah Montana non-stop. But look at this way. He was only with us on weekends and when he was, I had to gauge whether he was in the mood for me. I had to be very sensitive to avoid annoying him or making him silence me. I didn't want him to find me something else to do or some chore that would keep me busy and away from him, meaning I couldn't expect his
Like you know a child always feels these things you don't have to say anything but but they feel they they don't have to know but children they don't they don't need to know actually they just feel and they all always feel more than knows but okay the moment when i started to withdraw and realized that i was just too much Was exactly when I heard those words that I should, should, should doubt myself. After that I no longer usually participated in school plays, I stopped singing altogether and I pretended, by the way I was banned or grounded from
I pretenderowałam, żeby ją kochać. Malowanie i podróżowanie. Do you understand? I began convincing myself and everyone around me that I loved painting. Wow, thinking about it now, I must have had real acting talent, because even my mom believed so strongly that I loved painting.
And even I started to think so, so... And you know what? My dad liked that. Wow, he praised me and he was so proud when I painted something nice. And when I could occupy myself, I was quieter and didn't bother anyone with my performances. I became quite good at it because after, you know, years of practice it wasn't something Natural inside me. And I received the most prize then and I felt that my dad was finally proud of me and because I behaved.
And what can a child want more actually? Just that. Just attention. Kepisia. Kepisia.
I asking questions. Really, I started asking questions to people about them. I was always curious about people and their stories. I always wanted to know what drives a person in life. I loved listening to people talk about themselves and their passions. I liked getting to know people on a deep level. But because I was too much for my dad and he didn't allow me to get to know him as a friend, he simply couldn't handle it and I know now that's okay too. Just no one is ready for children actually. So, you know what? I started asking people on my podcast
If and when they had that moment where they truly discovered their voice and began expressing themselves. Like authentically. Without overthinking whether what they were doing was okay or not. Just being fully themselves. And you know what surprised me? Only people who were over 37 years old Powiedzieli, że ta realizacja zwykle się dzieje po 35 latach.
I was pleasantly surprised because at 25 it gave me ego a little boost knowing I still have time to discover myself. I'm already asking this, you know, big questions and it's great to see that I'm on the right path. And on the other hand, my guests who were under 30 seemed grateful that I asked them this question because it made them Reflect and seek their own answer, finding your voice. It's not something that comes easily. When I started out with my podcast and social media, I realized that there were many things holding me back, but imagine all the chances we have
It's one of the things I genuinely love doing. That's why I'm so focused on self-discovering. Because it never ends actually. And there is always more to uncover, more liars to peel away. Like more ideas to discard and ways to change how you think, speak.
I przyjechałam do zrozumienia tego, There are things we need to do better. And I have been thinking about strategies I can share with my, you know, audience. Strategies that add value. And one of the key strategies, other difficult word, that have been... What I wanted to say? I stucked. Okay.
One of those issues was speaking English incorrectly and feeling judged by my Polish peers. No one ever told me I spoke poorly in English, but somehow the Polish community made me feel like I should stay quiet until I learned perfect English. So if you're aware, it's hilarious and if you're not, it's just fucking sad what they say.
To sum up, I want to tell you that identifying the moment when you started to hold back and stopped being brave and authentic often lies in one event. This often builds a false belief about yourself and the world. And for me it turned out that my biggest fear for years was asking people questions and talking to them like on a deeper level actually. My biggest fear turned out to be my passion. What I love to do, specifically having conversations with people who later tell me after the podcast
Thank you for considering my voice important, for showing that my voice actually matters, even though I'm not a celebrity or a star. And this is why I conduct these conversations. And I won't be silenced anymore, because when you realize you give value to someone, The moment you can be there for someone is the most precious. It's absolutely the best thing. And sure anyone can run a podcast, of course, but I'm not talking about trash podcasts, but those that bring value. Where someone feels that they matter,
