The VoiCEE podcast: what does Trump's return to the White House mean for Ukraine and Poland
In this episode we're looking into the biggest topic of the past month, the president-elect of the United States, Donald J. Trump. Central and Eastern Europe have been a major focus of the current US administration, following Russia's 2022 invasion of Ukraine, and Trump has repeatedly said that he could quickly end this war. The region is also home to key US allies at Russia's doorstep, like Poland, a fellow member of NATO.
To understand what the region is saying about the return of Donald Trump to the White House. Host Joshua Coe speaks to two journalists, UkraineWorld’s deputy editor-in-chief, Anastasiia Herasymchuk and Notes from Poland’s editor-in-chief, Daniel Tilles.
In this podcast series, we look at the region from different angles and perspectives, attempting to capture its diversity and understand emerging trends. Above all, we want to give a voice to a region that is often talked to rather than listened to.
The VoiCEE is brought to you by a network of independent English-language media in Central and Eastern Europe: Reporting Democracy, VSquare, New Eastern Europe, Notes from Poland, Kafkadesk, Insight Hungary, Internews Ukraine, Transitions, Ukraine World.

It also boasts key US allies at Russia's doorstep, like Poland, a fellow member of NATO.
The VoiCEE podcast is brought to you from Poland, Poland, NATO.
Just on that, it seems like Ukraine really wants to be part of NATO.
NATO membership is actually the priority for Ukraine because we know that any kind of guarantees wouldn't work that effectively and we have experience in it other than being a member of a security bloc.
On the other hand, the strongest guarantee will be the NATO membership.
So the Ukraine's NATO membership should be put off.
Yes, and I think that it might be a part of the American vision of a compromise with Russia, putting off Ukrainian membership in NATO.
At the same time, the NATO membership is a very strategic thing for Ukraine and a very negative strategic issue for Russia.
But at the same time, even if we talk about the putting off of NATO membership, the American weapons on the Ukrainian lands, more advanced, insufficient amounts.
I would say is much more threatening situation for Russia because I mean we don't know how would NATO allies react to Russia's aggression against any other member.
So yeah, the NATO membership is extremely important, but the more important is to strengthen the military capabilities of Ukraine so that it can repel the Russian.
But again, I also don't know if the Ukrainian officials would agree to this kind of a compromise because NATO membership is one of the main Ukrainian strategic directions of development.
Like the United States, Poland is a member of NATO and a key US ally.
Poland is now the biggest defense spender in NATO in relative terms.
