The VoiCEE podcast: decoding Russia's information war in Central and Eastern Europe

27.06.2024 ·41 min 38 s · 7 rozdziałów

In this episode, Anastasiia Herasymchuk, deputy editor-in-chief of UkraineWorld, interviews Jakub Kalensky, deputy director of the hybrid influence team at the European Centre of Excellence for Countering Hybrid Threats. They discuss how the Russian propaganda machine has attempted to influence recent regional and global events, such as elections to the European Parliament and the Ukraine Peace Summit. They also speak about the strategic narratives employed by Russian propaganda, the tools used to make these narratives effective, and the dangers posed by this powerful Kremlin weapon. In this podcast series, we look at the region from different angles and perspectives, attempting to capture its diversity and understand emerging trends. Above all, we want to give a voice to a region that is often talked to rather than listened to. The VoiCEE is brought to you by a network of independent English-language media in Central and Eastern Europe: Reporting Democracy, VSquare, New Eastern Europe, Notes from Poland, Kafkadesk, Insight Hungary, Internews Ukraine, Transitions, Ukraine World. Her conclusion was that if it wasn't for the Russian influence, Donald Trump would never have become president. So that Russians actually decided to 2016 elections. And we don't even have such good documentation in all the various European elections. But some of them were quite close and in some of them we saw the pro-Russian candidate who was boosted by the disinformation campaign. In some of them we saw them won. Have the Russians decided those elections? We don't know, because we didn't even look into it. Which is, by the way, the conclusion that the UK Parliamentary Committee did several years ago, that the government didn't even look into the Russian influence of the Brexit referendum.
