Hello and welcome back to CAPITAL H. My name is John Guziak. I'm the head of Human Capital for Central Europe, where I truly believe that the human is the center of business and that's the purpose of this podcast.

Super pleasure. As you most probably can hear on my accent, I'm Dutch. Born and raised in the Netherlands. I'm now 57 and counting, I guess. I would say still young at heart. I'm also a proud mother of two incredible sons. Chloris, 25, Christian, 20, mężczyzna związany z mężczyzną przez ponad 30 lat. Rozmawialiśmy na uniwersytecie. Jestem teraz ponad 30 lat w obszarze IT, w aplikacji biznesowej. After I did a technical university I did a business university following and I started as a supply chain planner and supply chain manager at Dow Chemicals in my younger years and which I really enjoyed because that gave me a bit of a business sense and supply chain management is touching all and a lot of roles in companies and then it was a kind of coincidence nothing more nothing less that I joined

S.A.P. w najbliższych dniach. Współpracowała 2,5 lata temu z CAPITAL H. Names mentioned at Workday EMEA Europe, Middle East, and Africa. Names mentioned at Workday EMEA Europe, Middle East, and Africa.

Wielkie dzięki i do zobaczenia! In the Netherlands, my mother was a staying home mother who raised us with a lot of love and patience, I guess, for my brother and myself. And my parents always were great, to be honest. They always encouraged me, definitely my father encouraged me to do what I believed. Angelique de Vries, Workday, EMEA Europe, Middle East,

Yeah, it was basically a personal reason to that, John, and it's funny how life works out sometimes, right? And I believe that you always need to listen to your heart, so the true story here is that I met my... Wielkie dzięki i do zobaczenia w kolejnym odcinku! Names mentioned at Workday EMEA Europe, Middle East, and Africa.

The reason why I joined SAP was simple. My husband, my then boyfriend, now my husband, he had a house 30 minutes from where SAP had their main office in the Netherlands, also in the southern part of the Netherlands. When I worked at Dow Chemical, I was a key user for master data management project, so I knew a little bit about IT as a business user.

Jest wiele rzeczy, które Names mentioned at Workday EMEA Europe, Middle East, and Africa. Names mentioned at Workday EMEA Europe, Middle East, and Africa.

Names mentioned by Christian Ankerson, writer of the book Hungry in Paradise or The Goldmine Effect. I I love that book because there are a lot of sports metaphors. And that's easy to understand. I think we all know that if you want to play golf, you need to hit 6000 balls before you somehow can hit the ball straight, right? And I guess... Same with our professional life. Yeah, if you start something new or you want to embrace a new skill, you need to train it, right? You need to practice, train, fail, learn, continue. So there is one of the phrases out of that book, which I like to quote, is you better learn to love the pain.

What did you learn? What worked for you? What didn't work for you when it comes to that movement, if you will, from one role to the next? Yeah, that's a very good question. And so I can only speak about how I experienced it myself, but I think it starts with that curious mindset, right? So keep learning and raise your interests. I think that especially If you go into a new role or a new company or a new job, you first need to start with listening, right? So that's always why you have two ears and one mouth. So try to listen more. I think it's also important as another element to build up a network of peers, right?

Because in every company, in every role, Names mentioned are about teamwork, right? And getting more outcome or more impact together. So build your network and build your connections. I think that's another important one. I the last one to mention, I strongly believe in a positive mindset, right? Or the glass half full, glass half empty, but I have a kind of positive mindset that there are ways you can move forward or find solution, but you can never do it alone, so you need people, right? You need to do it together.

Sometimes I'm not patient enough myself, so that's one of my constant learnings, but maybe that's also my curious mindset. Be happy with the steps you are making, the improvements you are making, so also take the opportunity to enjoy that part, but stay curious to keep moving forward. I think that is important, at least for me.

Ok, ok. So if you decide to take a role because of your boss, you need to accept that maybe your boss will move in a year, right?

And I've done that in my past roles as well, where I thought I really want to work in that team, because I really like him or I really like her, and then the person moves on to the next role, and then I was a bit okay. Angelique de Vries, President at Workday, EMEA Europe, Middle East, and Africa. Names mentioned by EMEA Europe, Middle East, and Africa.

My advice would be then to either see if you can work the network, right? So you neutralize your boss a bit. And if that's not working, then you need to make your own decision, right? Because at the end, I think it's all about happiness in life. And when you have the wrong boss who is... Names mentioned at Workday EMEA Europe, Middle East, and Africa. Take it back to yourself about what can you do without your boss. Now you are the big boss, so you are the president.

Maybe that was never in your plans, but you are and congratulations for that, because that's definitely a vote of huge confidence. What is your role as actually the president of EMEA for Workday and what is it not? Angelique de Vries, President at Workday EMEA, Middle East, and Africa. I believe in that big time as well. I don't see my role as the boss, the opposite.

I see my role as encouraging others to shine and help others to thrive. There are multiple leadership books about this as a kind of multiplier. And that's what I believe in, right? I'm here to help. Names mentioned by EMEA Europe, Middle East, and Africa.

I to w porządku, prawda? Work with my colleagues and others on some people who are better in, let's say, where I have my weaknesses and where I can help others to complement theirs. That's, I think, where high-performing teams come from. One of the best advices I got in my younger leadership career is from a great HR director, who then said, if you build your team, Nie znajdź ludzi, którzy są podobni do Ciebie. Names mentioned at Workday EMEA Europe, Middle East and Africa. We all be better persons and leaders, right? So where do we have gaps? How do we close those gaps? So I believe in that open conversation, but also with a curious mindset where I'm... Angelique de Vries, Workday, EMEA Europe, Middle East, and Africa.

Jesteśmy jednym z liderów rynku w domenach HR i finansów.

30 lat w branży IT i biznesowej aplikacji.

How in the world do we motivate our people? Because it's just completely, and I literally was working on a, we were doing a leadership summit for two straight days with 70 people from five different countries, so it wasn't one country, it wasn't, and every single person had that same issue. How in the world do we motivate our people in this new world? On the other side, how in the world do we become even more digital? What are you hearing when you're having conversations with clients? Are those the same type of issues or are there other ones that are really coming out, you know, very, very strong? Yeah, there is a lot happening in many ways and in many dimensions, but definitely purpose, motivation, your point, purpose-led companies, and this comes back to value-led companies, value-driven companies.

I think that this is also shown in statistics and analysis. Successful companies are purpose driven. So for many employees, I guess including myself, EMEA Europe, Middle East, and Africa. Names mentioned at Workday EMEA Europe, Middle East, and Africa.

Names mentioned in EMEA Europe, Middle East, To spędzało mi dużo czasu, żeby napisać lepsze napisy, dokumenty strategiczne, e-mail, noty dziękuję. To jest mały przykład, ale w każdym rolu We see that technology and call it AI and generative AI will have a big impact in goals, in the tasks to be done. So it's impressive to see what can be done today and I'm super excited and if we don't focus on...
