Maciej alongside Mike Fiedler asks themselves about Developer Relationship. What that DevRel states for?! Listen to what 2 dudes would've never been developers but have to say on that topic. From the perspective of IT architect vs. Python Open Source Contributor, we can find out their view on that. ____________________ 🔔 Subskrybuj kanał: https://bit.ly/sub_evoilutioncast
This is very much a microcosm of odd experiences. So don't judge the rest of the US by what you see in Vegas.
Very often it's listening to what is not being said. Reading between the lines. You're absolutely right. I lean back on something called the XY problem, where someone has asked how can I do X and they don't actually want to do X, they think they want to do X. Because someone led them along, they googled and found a stack overflow that said you should do X when they actually want to do Y. And then if you dig through or read between the lines and figure out what Y is, then you can give them a different solution than X, potentially the right one. So I think the listening, the active listening of digging through and understanding what is it you're actually trying to do,
As opposed to, I want to run Postgres on three nodes. Why do you want to do that? Like, oh, I want a highly available Postgres cluster. Maybe you should use this solution over here instead of you trying to run three nodes. Maybe the right answer is you do want to run three nodes and you have reasons, but the initial request often should turn around with a, alright, what are you exactly trying to do? And read through those.
All these aspects in the end will follow to the target that just the process will be better, right? And I think that that's the important part. Yeah, the billing part is interesting. I've seen through different companies where folks with developer advocate or DevRel fall under either marketing or engineering. It all kind of depends on your company structure. When it comes to billable, I mean, marketing is not directly billable, right? In marketing, budgets are... We believe that if we spend X amount of dollars, we will see Y amount of revenue. And there's... . .
