How did it all begin? I'm always curious what sparked that first step. And what they told me was really beautiful. Because none of them started running because they were supposed to or because someone told them to. Each of them had their own personal reason. Agnieszka, leader in Kraków, told me that running came back into her life after her second child was born. She said she just needed a moment for herself, a little space where she could be alone, where she could listen to the silence of her own thoughts.
And the thing that kept coming up in all four cities was the same simple rule. Fixed days, fixed time. In Katowice Ola runs the training every Thursday at 5.30 p.m. and she's not afraid to make it easy. She told me she'll just walk up to someone in the office and say, OK, come on, we'll drive together, it will be faster, you're coming on a training with me.
And this was probably the most important message in the whole conversation. Each of them said, we always set the pace according to the slowest person, so nobody feels they don't belong. Misha added that half of the people at their very first training didn't run at all. They just came up to see what it was about.
And of course I had to ask them about motivation. About those days when you wake up and want to go back to bed immediately. When it's cold, rainy, windy and putting on shoes feels like a challenge.
