Dzień dobry from Poland.
You have just joined us on a journey to learn something about our home country, Poland.
Today we will talk about important days in Poland in September.
We will hear all about Literature Day in Poland from Anna Burton, President of the Polish Association in Christchurch.
I'm gonna start with introducing the very important days in Poland in September and I'm gonna start with the first September because first September is quite a significant day and it's the day that the Second World War started.
President of Poland is commemorating this event, this anniversary actually.
So, the Germany invasion of Poland, which led to the deadly global conflict, began with an attack on a Polish military facility, actually at Westerplatte, so it was north of Poland, a strip of land in Gdańsk Chaba, and it happened at 4.45 a.m.
So the brutal German occupation of Poland lasted till 1945.
Just over two weeks later, on September 17, 1939, the Soviet Union invaded eastern Poland as secretly agreed upon in the German-Soviet Non-Aggression Pact.
Poland was under the occupation of both Nazi Germany and Soviet Union until the end of the war.
Poland suffered immense human losses during the occupation.
It became the primary site of the Holocaust, with many concentration camps around Poland, with the vast majority of its approximately 3 million Jewish citizens murdered by Nazis.
Emphasize the President of Poland inviting everyone to read together.
The President also stressed that Jan Kochanowski's works contain wise reflections on Poland, concerned for the common good and the prosperity of the Republic.
This should be our great shared mission, that every student leaving school in Poland should truly feel proud of being Polish, underlined the President when he was speaking about this National Day of Reading.
In 1959 he returned to Poland and entered the service of Magnet Courts and later the Royal Court.
Poland features at this...
Poland has received awards at the exhibitions in Vienna in 1873, Paris in 1878 and Chicago in 1893, but they've never actually hosted a World Expo.
The last exhibition in which Poland participated before World War II was held in New York in 1939 and its theme was Building the World of Tomorrow.
It presented Poland's economic achievements and culture.
King of Poland, have I said that right?
Who was the King of Poland in 1386 to 1434 and his statue or monument stood at the entrance.
After the German invasion of Poland in September 1939, the pavilion was updated to display documentary photos of the war's atrocities and the ongoing fight of Polish forces and the evidence of the Holocaust.
So at the 2025 Expo, Poland presents itself as Poland heritage that drives the future.
So it's quite interesting, there's a contrast there, we're focusing on trade, whereas Poland's focusing on their history and culture.
It will be very good because I remember in Poland in the spring time we just have a big cleaning.
